An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a PC and serves as the intermediary between all the applications and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run an application, it transfers requests to the OS through an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done through a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Just like a personal computer, web servers also use an Operating System which functions as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, etc. A virtual machine can be created on a physical one, so you could install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host Operating System.

Multiple OS in VPS Servers

Our VPS server packages include three Linux releases that you can choose from for the Operating System of your new web server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being totally free, the OSs are really stable and secure and the primary reason to offer the three of them is to make sure that you will be able to run any kind of application that you would like, because different pieces of software have different requirements with regards to the environment they work on. Each of the three OSs is supported by a vast community of web developers who have produced thousands of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. Based on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to select between three different Control Panels to manage your hosting content. Of course, in case you decide that you need another OS, we can always re-install the server with it. As an additional upgrade, we also offer weekly updates of the Operating System for maximum stability and security.
